In the first phase of the design process we sensitize for the extended topic of private and secure communication from two different perspectives. First, by collecting, categorizing and sketching ready made mini-solutions developed in gamestorming sessions. Second, by exploring existing communication forms, channels and tools to discard, keep or emphasize specific qualities.

Gamestorming: Sensitize through playful Ideation
The goal of the first working session is to brainstorm for new concepts and qualities of ultra private communication tools and services. We will use different creative gamestorming methods to explore the overall design space and sensitize for the subsequent experiments and probing activities.
- Collect 30 (or more) person-to-person communication experiences.
- Cluster the experiences in an affinity diagram. Find meaningful labels for each of your clusters
- Based on your diagram develop sketches of 5 initial mini-concepts how person-to-person communication could be in improved in future (especially in terms of privateness and security).

Exploration & Interpretation: Technical and Experiential Research
This session focuses on the analysis, comparison and testing of existing communication tools and services. The goal is to identify satisfying solutions, desirable qualities and promising opportunities.
- Exploring different communication forms (e.g. video-based communication such as face time)
- Analyze communication qualities, conversations etc.
- Explore different tool behaviors
- Identify patterns, principles…
- Decide what to discard, keep, emphasize…
