In the 21st century technology has become a commodity and the user has come to be the focus of attention when designing interactive systems and applications. Considering the growing importance of User eXperience (UX) over technology, we approach the use of smart technology to deliver engaging experiences. Powerful multi-sensor mobile devices, wearables, tangible interfaces, as well as more down-to-earth interactive systems are potential vehicles for providing users with enhanced experiences that facilitate the accomplishment of their daily life tasks, engage them in healthy activities, promote wellbeing and positive emotions, as well as stimulate thoughts, emotions, or ideas. In this workshop we start by presenting and discussing several research prototype systems designed to enhance the UX in several real-life scenarios. Then we address the interactive systems’ iterative design process with special focus on the evaluation phase. We will learn how to carry out user studies to validate assumptions and test our creations directly with potential users. On a hands-on approach we will experiment usability testing methods.
