VJ DADA is an audiovisual performance based on the abstract film Rhythmus 21, produced by Hans Richter in 1921. The film is a rhythmic animation of geometric shapes and its visual structure uses the formal principles of musical composition. Enrique Tomas analyses Richter’s film through a computer vision algorithm, which extrapolates, frame by frame, the graphic structure and its evolution.
In the performance, the music is generated according to visual and rhythmic analysis. The compositive premise of the film is then turned upside down to create new sound material.
The result is the reactualization of rhythm and audiovisual structure through a more contemporary lens.
VJ DADA was produced thanks to the support of Fundación Phonos Barcelona”
