NEIEMA

NEIEMA

/ Or Wolff (IL)

This project was created to get a look into the world of the artist. Moreover, to explore how sound can reflect a story with varieties of interaction by different people. The word Neiema comes from the Hebrew language and means “a melody that follows by sound tone.”
This installation presents a connection of visual graphics that transform into sound when the visitors touch the prints of the different patterns. The graphic patterns show various details of skin under the microscope. The artist shows in an abstract way very private details of herself.
The action of touching allows a more exposed, sensitive and personal connection to the content of the project. Every person is creating different kinds of “Neiema” (melody) that changes according to their way of interacting with the art work.

While most communication between people follows a specific pattern of visualization/sound/behavior, this project attempts at taking interaction to a different place – deeper and more poetic.
In order to create the most organic natural experience for interacting with the poster and the patterns I used screen printing technique. This technique giving meaning for every little dot of the print and therefore gives more attention to the sense of feeling and touching of the poster.
When touching different patterns – abstract sound of organs will appear and the melody (Neiema) of the poster will change according to the interaction of the audience.
The combination of different senses while interacting with this project creates a new Interpretation of communication. This interaction is not followed by any specific language, it’s relying on senses and creating an individual, abstract personal experience.
The tempo and combination of touching patterns will be different for each person and therefore the melody will change. This creates a kind of instrument which forms different melodies correlating to the way it is played.
