Data Slicer – Fruitfulness

Veronika Krenn & Vesela Mihaylova

Since the beginning of time, tools were invented to simplify the hunting, cutting, cooking and eating processes. Nowadays there exist specific devices for almost each single dish or task, promising to be timesaving and simple in usage.

Apples are not only the most popular fruit in Central Europe, they are also brimming with symbolic meanings and mythic associations. In many cultures the fruit stands for life, knowledge, love and fertility. The project “Data Slicer – Fruitfulness” visualizes statistical data sets regarding the human reproduction by means of apples and a modified slicer tool.

The “Data Slicer – Fruitfulness” project is a food data visualization experiment from the “Taste of Data” series, which tries to transmit data into our daily life eating process. The visitor is asked to try out the new device and to enjoy the fresh fruits.

Ursuppe

Alberto Boem & Davide Bevilacqua
Ursuppe is a sound performance that involves jelly made out of the seaweed Agar-Agar and analog oscillators casted in a jelly-like material, in a setup that creates a complex soundscape characterized by unpredictability and uncertainty.

The combination of these elements produces a stratified and unstable mixture of drones with a variable frequency and oscillating rhythmic figures. Trough this system the performers shape a network of relations between the different islands and modify throughout it the flow of energy.

The audience can listen the effects on the matter resulting from the actions of the performers, and the oxidation and liquefaction of the substances due to the energy of the sound itself.

Tangible Scores

Enrique Tomás
A “Tangible Score” is a tactile interface for musical expression that incorporates a score in its physical shape, surface structure or spatial configuration. Every interface is conceived from a different graphical score that represents a musical idea and it has been also specially designed for providing a diverse palette of electronic sounds when touched.
